This model A Ariel was produced late 1929 and actually is a 1930 model, equipped with Sturmey Archer three speed gearbox.

The new line of Ariels, introduced at the end of 1925 and designed by engineering genius Val Page, had been an instant success.
Not so much because of its technical innovations, but mostly for its very attractive styling: lower saddle position, shortened wheel base and high saddle tank.
Victor Mole was the new man in charge of sales at the Ariel works and he designed the new eye-catching emblem of the Ariel horse and coined the advertising slogan ?Ariel, the Modern Motor Cycle?. Within a few years Ariel sales and profits rocketed.
In 1927 sales were ten times as high as the 1925 sales before the introduction of the new line of machines.

Description
Components Ltd. the Ariel parent company, had been involved in producing motorized vehicles since 1898.
For the 1910 season a radical change occurred in the motorcycle range.
All previous models were discontinued and were replaced by 3 ? HP machines that would remain in production for the next 15 years: the T-head White & Poppe engine, in which the inlet and exhaust valves were placed an extraordinarily 4 ? inches apart.
Because of this the new machines soon gained the nickname of ? the Ariels with valves a-mile-apart?.
The new models proved very popular with motorcycle enthusiasts and in 1911 Components Ltd. bought the patents rights of the engine and started producing the power unit itself, at the same time increasing the bore to enlarge the swept volume from 482cc to 498 cc.
In 1914 a three-speed countershaft gearbox was added.
The primary chain drive is housed in a neat cast aluminum cover and clutch control is by foot pedal. Secondary transmission is by belt.
Comfortable spring seat is a practical detail!

Description

Ariel's first step towards motorcycle production was made in 1898 with the production of quadricycles, driven by De Dion Bouton single cylinder engines.
Later the Ariel two-wheelers got engines from Kerry and around 1910 White and Poppe, Abingdon King Dick and Motosacoche power sources were used.
The Ariel here is equipped with a ca. 700cc Abingdon King Dick engine.
It has a 3 speed gearbox with foot operated clutch and belt drive to the rear wheel.
The saddle is connected to a spring frame on the saddle tube, which gives a comfortable ride.
